member updates

Just post a quick update here on where your status is on moly's for this book.
I have Pilar's Moly and I am on vaction so I am playing catch up with all my groups that I've joined. I am hoping to have it done by the first weekend of the new year! I have just two moly's in front of hers and I am working on one now.

...and they are off!

Ian's and Yvonne's moly books are out of my hands and are in transit via United States Postal Service on their way to Rubén! Shipped them off today.

Speaking of shipping things off and keeping track of them -- where is your moly, everyone? Just checking!

Yvonne's Moly is ready

This image was inspired by several deities that represent masculine divinity in Wicca. An antlered god Cernunnos, associated with produce and fertility was a main inspiration for this image. In Wiccan tradition masculine deity is viewed as a Horned God of nature. He is often seen as a god of woodlands, sexuality, and hunting. In this form he is equated with Celtic god Cernunnos and Greek god Pan. Another depiction of the God is as the Oak King and the Holly King, one who rules over Spring and Summer, the other who rules over Autumn and Winter.

Both Ian's moly and Yvonne's moly are now done and ready to be packed up and shipped to Rubén ...

Ian's moly DONE!

This is a Love Story of mechanical robot jelly-fish boy and a pink jelly-fish girl for Ian's moly of "Tentacle'n'Teeth Tales". I got Yvonne's book yesterday, so I am ready to give it a go! Hey, Ian, thanks for that little extra something, that arrived in that package :)

11.14.2008

color added and ready for post to Albina

Tried a different route as the markers seep too much. Animation pencils were too light, but the Ticonderoga core-lock pencils rock, need to procure a wider variety of those, I suspect.

How is everyone else coming along?

Cheers!

Tentacles & Teeth Tales

My first Mole contribution done! Thank goodness it's the book I'm starting though, cause went WAY too dense detailed on the start of it, and thus trying to color it up went too dark as well, basically turned into a big smear, and man those markers bled a lot! Good to learn!

Tentacles & Teeth Tales Moly progress

Still pretty rough, but wanted to post my progress.

Inks done, time to color. How are everyone else's coming along? Also, anyone know how to spice up our blogger page like x38? I'm clueless about blogger formatting...

Q and A:

Hi, here are some answers to few questions that came through e-mail.

Once again, our group theme is "myths, legends and creatures of myths and legends old and new".

Each person have to pick out their own sub-theme. It is up to you, it is your choice! For example, I am leaning toward "dangerous girls of myths and legends". Valkyries, Furies, Vampire Hunters... etc. That means when my moly will get to Ruben, he will have to continue with my sub-theme (dangerous girls) in my book. Remember that whatever sub-theme you will have for your book, others will have to follow it and interact with. If you don't mind let everyone know what your sub-theme happens to be, it will be easier as books will make their rounds.

As soon as you have your sub-theme picked out and you got your moly Japanese accordion book ready - start working on your own book anytime! I am going to start on my own this weekend.

Also, while Pilar and Ruben are not signed as blog contributers just yet, we are in touch and they are on board!

Pages

Here is an example I got from another blog about how the 2.5 pages should look per person this may help some of you?

Check, check, checking...

Hello, everyone!

Just a short post to re-cap some of the things we have talked about through e-mail:

Our group’s theme have been agreed upon and it is "Myths and Legends and Creatures of Myths and Legends: old, new (creatures of fiction, Urban Legends) and personal mythology". Everyone sounded pretty enthusiastic about it. It is a broad topic, but that's the joy – everyone can have sub-theme that they are most happy about. Also, some people mentioned having color as an added dimension for their moly challenge.

So, this is the time to get our books, pick out our sub-themes and start working away on those first few pages. Page distribution for six-member group is 2.5 pages in two rounds. Please post your progress, stages or finished efforts here and Moly_x Flickr group. I am looking forward to seeing everyone’s art!

Our mail order will be: Albina to Ruben, Ruben to Pilar, Pilar to Michel, Michael to Yvonne, Yvonne to Ian, Ian to Albina. Our tentative first mail-out day is September 20. It will take a year for all of our books to make a circle of the group twice... more or less :)

I am ready to start. You?

Welcome to moly_x_39!

Moly_x_39 is an extension of the Moleskine Exchange, founded by Albina aka outofhands (USA). This blog will follow the adventure of a group of artists around the world, in a Japanese fold Moleskine sketchbook exchange. Our current group includes the artists listed to the right, including contributors in the US, Canada and Colombia.

Each artist will set off with a small Japanese (accordian) folded Moleskine. Creating a drawing, collage, or painting, then send on to the next artist. Each artist will draw on a couple of spreads (2.5 pages) then send it on to the next artist. When the artists book is filled, it will be returned to the owner with images created by artists around the world. Each artist has a month (give or take) to make an entry. The outcome will be a pleasant and surprising adventure, as artists are encouraged to interact and merge their art with others.

The concept:

1. The artists start with the Japanese fold Moleskine - Name, address, email address written in book.

2. Each artist gets 1 month to make a sketchbook entry, and mail it to the next person. The order is listed to the right. If you ever need to update addresses, please feel free to contact your partners directly! An important part of this project is to discuss and exchange information and ideas.

3. Each artist will do 2-3 pages each round.

4. Artists are encouraged to interact with other images in the book. Please be respectful.

5. When the book is full, when one side of the unfolded book is filled, the book will be sent back to its original owner. That artist may continue by buying a new book and sending it to the next person.

6. If a person decides not to continue, she/he will simply keep her/his book when it comes back to her/him. She/he should email all of the participants to say she/he is not going to continue. We will decide, then, if we want to find a new person.

7. Please communicate regularly via email. Let each person know that you have received/sent the book. The goal is to have a dialog. Any comments and questions are welcome.
