Book updates please post here

I have no books for this group! Who has my book.. .in fact who has whose book at this point? I know we are almost full circle here.

my entry into Rubén's Moly

That was a challenging theme and in the end I went pretty playful and light versus my usual heavier handed approach. I haven't colored with Crayloa markers in ages, that was fun! Anyway, hope you all like it.

Cheers!

my Sirens entry in Albina's Dangerous Girls of Mythology

All done and had much fun! Now for the big question, who should I send this on to next? Did our order change or do I drop this into the mail for Albina? And if so, do you still live at the same address as last time, Albina?

Thanks! Hope you all like it!

second round update

Hello, everyone!

First of all -- wow! We are at the end of our first round, and there are some really amazing pieces that are now gracing our moly pages. Thanks everyone for your beautiful art!

Also, I got an e-mail from Pilar: she and Ruben will not be able to participate in the second round. She will be sending remaining moly books to Michael, and I will send her book (and Ruben's) to her. It is sad to say good bye to both of them, but I understand that sometime needs must.

And it brings us to another question -- how are the rest of us doing? Can we finish this moly circuit between just the four of us: Yvonne, Michael, Ian, and Albina? I hope so! It would be too late at this point in the game to invite other people to jump in, as our books half-way full, and I feel that we are a strong group ... despite the quietude. With Pilar and Ruben out, perhaps the rest of us can take a little more space for artwork, and perhaps a little more time to complete it.

Obviously I am not ready to give up, how about the rest of you? Let me know how you feel about it! Reply here, through e-mail, or find me on facebook.

Cheers! Albina

adding to Albina's moly

A watery spin on mermaids and sirens for Albina's mythical moly, still need to add some minimal / gentle color and punch in highlights, but mostly done. There are so many amazing pieces in this one, really intimidating to follow such accomplished acts!

How do you do the colorific hoodoo voodoo that you do?

May I ask how you all are doing your colors?

I've tried water color / art markers - they bled too much; tried color pencils - too muted versus the yellow card stock. Tried water colors with varied success, though seems I have to really layer up goopy thick paint to get enough opacity to overcome the yellow.

Most of you all seem to easily surmount the yellow and get some sharp details in your colors. What do you use? Is it guasch paint? acryllic?

And yes, sorry, this is a huge gaping hole in my fine arts background, I don't know nearly enough about illustrative color work or techniques. Any suggestions would be deeply appreciated!

Thanks!

e

PS - apologies if you saw this post on the other Moly groups I'm in, trying to get ample coverage from all the amazingly talented folks I've been fortunate enough to crew up with!

Michael's Moly is ready!

My contribution to Michael's vampires. I am happily playing with fire here, and some concepts of moral ambiguity: Is that a BABY (!!!!) she is carrying? or just a bundle of some sorts? Is she stealing that poor baby ( if it is a baby) and going to burn for it, or is she saving it from the fires of Hell? Is that a walk on the dark side, or an escape from it? Hmmm, I don't know.

Brides added to Michael Nightmare's Vampire Moly

Every since that Santos versus the Brides of Dracula appeared on Mystery Science Theater eons ago, I've been an ardent fan of the Brides, and they've remained my favorites through pretty much every incarnation of Dracula since.

Definitely kicking a little 30 Days of Night notched up a bit with the ample teeth, although that might also be my penchant for drawing big teeth, something I've been keen on since I started trying to draw the Wolfman from the American Werewolf in London ad I had pulled from a magazine as a kid, years before I ever saw the actual film, drawing the howling maw while making up what the movie could be in my head.

I wonder what sort of flick Vampire Brides versus the howlin' mad Wolf Man would make, esp. with a healthy dose of Santos & Blue Demon.

Yvonne's asked me to scan this in for your viewing pleasure, so here you go! Love how the bites have actually punctured through the Moly paper!

progress in Michael Nightmare's book

Took a more 30 Days of Night approach to the Vampire theme.
Next to add some color...

Oh, and let me pass along the ample praise this Moly garnered as I set to add to it on the roomy marble bar in the well lit lounge of the hotel we escaped to in Whistler for the weekend. The staff and several patrons saw Michael and Yvonne's brilliant pieces as I laid the Moly out and began sketching, leading to some neat discussions about art, the International Moly Echange, meeting artists on Flickr, tattoos as an Australian mom thinks Yvonne's flower would make an awesome tatty, and a museum I missed when I was in London that apparently I need to go back for, the Tate by the Millineum Bridge. Any rate, several cats at Whistler thought what we're doing is cool and looks awesome, and art work wise thats props to M. Nightmare and Yvonne, cause I hadn't really drawn anything yet.

Hello, everyone!

How is this new year treating you? I hope all is well and good where you are. I hope you giving some love and artistic attention to all those moleskins that you have. And speaking of moly-books: I would like to make a little spreadsheet (I saw them on other moly_x blogs) that shows the movement of our books. Can you please let me know who's book (or books) you have now or to whom you have send it off to recently. And remember we have one month to make an entry and send it off to another person to keep this collaboration moving!

Cheers!
