I have started on my moly of "dangerous girls of mythology". This is just pencil for now and not all of it in yet, but I wanted to get going. More about Sirens or Seirênes HERE.

Q and A:

Hi, here are some answers to few questions that came through e-mail.

Once again, our group theme is "myths, legends and creatures of myths and legends old and new".

Each person have to pick out their own sub-theme. It is up to you, it is your choice! For example, I am leaning toward "dangerous girls of myths and legends". Valkyries, Furies, Vampire Hunters... etc. That means when my moly will get to Ruben, he will have to continue with my sub-theme (dangerous girls) in my book. Remember that whatever sub-theme you will have for your book, others will have to follow it and interact with. If you don't mind let everyone know what your sub-theme happens to be, it will be easier as books will make their rounds.

As soon as you have your sub-theme picked out and you got your moly Japanese accordion book ready - start working on your own book anytime! I am going to start on my own this weekend.

Also, while Pilar and Ruben are not signed as blog contributers just yet, we are in touch and they are on board!

Pages

Here is an example I got from another blog about how the 2.5 pages should look per person this may help some of you?

Check, check, checking...

Hello, everyone!

Just a short post to re-cap some of the things we have talked about through e-mail:

Our group’s theme have been agreed upon and it is "Myths and Legends and Creatures of Myths and Legends: old, new (creatures of fiction, Urban Legends) and personal mythology". Everyone sounded pretty enthusiastic about it. It is a broad topic, but that's the joy – everyone can have sub-theme that they are most happy about. Also, some people mentioned having color as an added dimension for their moly challenge.

So, this is the time to get our books, pick out our sub-themes and start working away on those first few pages. Page distribution for six-member group is 2.5 pages in two rounds. Please post your progress, stages or finished efforts here and Moly_x Flickr group. I am looking forward to seeing everyone’s art!

Our mail order will be: Albina to Ruben, Ruben to Pilar, Pilar to Michel, Michael to Yvonne, Yvonne to Ian, Ian to Albina. Our tentative first mail-out day is September 20. It will take a year for all of our books to make a circle of the group twice... more or less :)

I am ready to start. You?

Welcome to moly_x_39!

Moly_x_39 is an extension of the Moleskine Exchange, founded by Albina aka outofhands (USA). This blog will follow the adventure of a group of artists around the world, in a Japanese fold Moleskine sketchbook exchange. Our current group includes the artists listed to the right, including contributors in the US, Canada and Colombia.

Each artist will set off with a small Japanese (accordian) folded Moleskine. Creating a drawing, collage, or painting, then send on to the next artist. Each artist will draw on a couple of spreads (2.5 pages) then send it on to the next artist. When the artists book is filled, it will be returned to the owner with images created by artists around the world. Each artist has a month (give or take) to make an entry. The outcome will be a pleasant and surprising adventure, as artists are encouraged to interact and merge their art with others.

The concept:

1. The artists start with the Japanese fold Moleskine - Name, address, email address written in book.

2. Each artist gets 1 month to make a sketchbook entry, and mail it to the next person. The order is listed to the right. If you ever need to update addresses, please feel free to contact your partners directly! An important part of this project is to discuss and exchange information and ideas.

3. Each artist will do 2-3 pages each round.

4. Artists are encouraged to interact with other images in the book. Please be respectful.

5. When the book is full, when one side of the unfolded book is filled, the book will be sent back to its original owner. That artist may continue by buying a new book and sending it to the next person.

6. If a person decides not to continue, she/he will simply keep her/his book when it comes back to her/him. She/he should email all of the participants to say she/he is not going to continue. We will decide, then, if we want to find a new person.

7. Please communicate regularly via email. Let each person know that you have received/sent the book. The goal is to have a dialog. Any comments and questions are welcome.
